Obelisk Overprints: Major Varieties This listing of the major overprint varieties is based upon work done by Espen Solheim, a fellow Ethiopian Philatelic Society member. He did extensive research on the Obelisk overprint and included my collection of Obelisk stamps in his study. Through his study, he expanded the number of known major OP varieties and developed a scheme to relate a particular combination of errors to a specific plate position. His results are reported in Menelik's Journal, Volume 19, Number 3, September - July 2003, pages 9-15. The nucleus of my collection was purchased at auction and was originally part of the John Boksenbom Ethiopian collection. Over the year since its purchase, I have acquired additional material ... some real, some fake. My entire collection is displayed on this site. This page cites the major overprint errors that appear consistently from sheet to sheet. There are numerous minor overprint errors that are likely specific to an individual sheet and therefore are not included below.
