7 August 1945 - Victory

The unissued 1936 Red Cross Issue was overprinted in Amharic (de le) and V for Victory

The Amharic letters are ~133 mm apart; and the height of the V is ~150 mm.

Genuine issued stamps were only printed in Red. Several different shades of red exist.

The Amharic and V were included on the same cliché, thus stamps bearing Vs without Amharic letters are fake.

Recto-Verso
Recto-verso is the only known variety of the V overprint issue.
It occurs during the printing process when a sheet of stamps is placed on top of another sheet of stamps on which the ink is not completely dry.
Recto-verso is also known on the forged issues.
