1929 First Flights: 5 September 1929 - Arrival of the Ethiopian
Junker in Dire Daoua
Flown by Baron von Engel, the German Junker purchased by the
Ethiopian Government arrived in Dire Daoua on September 5, 1929.
Incoming mail carried by train from Djibouti was loaded on to
the Junker and subsequently flown to Addis Ababa. Only mail from
abroad was carried by the flight. All incoming mail was marked
with the special cachet that was used on the commemorative
covers created for the arrival of the first airplane in Addis
Ababa on August 18, 1929. |
